Sylvan was formed in Dartmouth in the fall of 1966 by musicians that
had been playing mainly individually for a while but also with some band
experiences. Sylvan performed cover tunes for local teen clubs, such as
those associated with churches and the Halifax Police Boys' Club, as well
as at junior high school dances. Some of their more ambitious numbers
were "Daydream Believer" by the Monkees, "Time Won't Let Me" by the Outsiders, and the Small Faces' "Itchycoo Park" (using a fuzz bass!)
The band broke up in the fall of 1968 and saw Greg and John leave the
business. Eric went on to play in local Dartmouth groups, "The Umbrella", "The Move" and "Country Funk", and later in "Spice". Today he is a promoter and booking agent as EMD Artist Representation.
Sean continued to play in high school bands "Inside Story", "The Good,
the Bad and the Ugly", and "Money", interspersed with various solo and duo projects. He most recently plays in the "Sham*Rocks".
Richard began his official stage lighting career during Sylvan, but despite playing bass or guitar at the odd gig through 1970, had switched almost completely to lighting in 1968, where he remains today.
