The Spoons was formed by Halifax guitarist John Geddes who was previously in the P.E.I. based band "Tequila". The band played covers of such songs as Pat Benetar's "Hell Is For Children", Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and a rocking version of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'".
Phil became the sound man for the band when another bass player joined the band. Guitarist and vocalist T.J. Myers was added to the line-up making the band even stronger. The band had to change it's name when an Ontario band with the same name released an album.
